Spice cookies


Easy, affordable and perfect for any occasion. This recipe will make about 80-100 cookies depending on the size.

You will need the following:

  • 4 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 4 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 tsp all spice
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 350 g soft butter
  • 1 cup soft brown muscovado sugar
  • 1 cup caster sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup black treacle

JFP_9733Sift 4 1/2 cups of all purpose flour to a sieve.

JFP_9742Add 4 tsp bicarbonate of soda.

JFP_9786Add 3 tsp all spice.

JFP_9797JFP_9808Add 1 1/2 tsp ground cloves.

JFP_9838Sieve the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.

JFP_9892In a separate bowl cream 350g soft butter with an electric whisk.

JFP_9941Add 1 cup of soft brown muscovado sugar.

JFP_9946Add 1 cup caster sugar.

JFP_9956JFP_9975Mix together for 2 minutes.

JFP_9991Add 2 tsp of vanilla extract.

JFP_9995Next we need 1 cup of black treacle. Before you add this to your cup, take a little bit of oil and rub the inside of your measuring  cup. This will stop the treacle from sticking when you pour it out.

JFP_0094Beat together for 2 minutes.

JFP_0169Next add your mixture of dry ingredients and beat until all ingredients have been incorporated.

JFP_0172JFP_0177JFP_0186Roll your dough into walnut sized balls. Roll and cover them in caster sugar.

JFP_0213After baking for 12 minutes they should look like this. Place them on a cooling rack. If you leave them on a hot baking tray they will continue baking and might end up hard.


Goes pretty well with a cup of coffee!

    something that I think I would never understand.
    It seems too complicated and very broad for me.
